Help Affair-Proof Your Marriage

Flee sexual immorality. (1 Corinthians 6:18, NKJV)

Don’t be alone with other women. Don’t have personal and private conversations with other women. Don’t take that second and third look at other women. Have a picture of you and your wife all over your office.

Magnify the consequences.

Remind yourself of the destruction that it will cause you and your family by sexual sins. Samson in the Bible had a strong back but a weak mind. (Judges 16:19-21, NKJV; Proverbs 6:32, NKJV; Judges 16:22-30, NKJV) God did not forget Samson and God still used him.

Maintain your marriage.

You need a plan in how to respond and what to do when you are upset with your mate. Know what her greatest needs are. She needs to be your best friend. You do what she loves and she learns to do what you love.

Maintain your sexual fulfillment at home. (1 Corinthians 7:3-5, NKJV)

Men don’t have a problem having their needs met, but it takes time for a woman to have hers met. When you are best friends with your mate, you can talk about anything including sex.

Manage/Maintain your mind. (2 Corinthians 10:5-6, NKJV; Proverbs 23:7, NKJV)

Control your thinking and you will control your actions. Control your thinking and you will control your life. Both your actions and emotions follow your thinking.

Maintain your emotional relationship. (2 Timothy 2:22, NKJV, TLB)

Many times, what starts out looking and sounding like an innocent relationship turns into an emotional relationship and then later a sexual relationship. When you start talking about personal matters that should only be shared with your mate, you need to stop. Change the subject to how wonderful your wife and kids are.

Pray for Rain

Pray for Rain

James highlights the power of prayer through the example of Elijah. Elijah was a human just like us, yet when he prayed earnestly for no rain, there was no rain for three and a half years. When he prayed again, the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. Fervent, righteous prayer can have powerful results, demonstrating God’s ability to intervene through prayer.

Self-centered desires are the main source of conflicts, arguments, and fractured relationships. These desires can be concealed and often spark disputes. Regular self-reflection is essential to recognize and address these selfish inclinations. It’s important to refrain from slander and gossip, as they have the power to either uplift or harm others.
