Have you ever gone to the beach? Have you ever walked on the beach in the heat of the day? If you have never walked on a hot beach, think about walking on hot concrete in the middle of a hot Louisiana summer. When walking on the beach I always want to find the tiniest bit of shade to try to give my feet a rest from the heat of the sand.

Sometimes life can feel this way. We all feel the heat from time to time, whether it’s a strained relationship or health issues or maybe it’s the fear of the future. Whatever it maybe we all feel that heat from time to time. Whether you realize it or not, your soul is probably screaming, this life is so hot maybe your soul is looking for that tiny bit of shade so it can get some relief.

Psalm 91:1-2 – Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

If we want to receive the promise of God, we must first meet the condition of the promise. If we do what God asks us to do, He will do what only He can do.

The great news is scripture tells us how to enter into God’s rest and experience His relief…it says that we must dwell in the shelter of the Most High – another translation says the dwell in the secret place of the Most High.

This is speaking about spending time alone with God. In his presence he restores our peace, it’s in His presence that He restores our Hope. It’s in His presence and in the shadow of the almighty, that we find relief and rest from the heat of this life. Taking time to shut everything else out for a moment a focus on God alone. The bible illustrates that when we are close to God, we are in his shadow. Right now, during this time with the coronavirus things are slowing down. You’re sheltering in place, doing school at home, some of us are working from home and not a lot is going on right now.

The challenge for you is to take this opportunity of being at home to spend some time with God, read His Word, pray with Him and listen to what he has to say. Maybe turn on some worship music and praise Him. Just simply spend time with God.
