Wrong Expectations
Your expectations need to come from God. (Psalm 62:5, KJV)
If your expectations come from anyone other than God, you will live a roller coaster of a life. God is going to take care of you.
Love your wife, kids, and friend but your expectations need to come from God who is the only one who will never disappoint you. (John 10:10, NKJV; Romans 15:13, ESV; 2 Peter 1:3, ESV)
Wrong expectations don’t only affect our marriages, they affect every area in life.
There’s a difference between perception and reality.
3 reasons for wrong expectations:
- You never talked about them.
- The expectations were not clear.
- You just decided not to meet them.
Lower your expectations and raise your level of love. (1 John 4:18, NKJV)
Refocus your expectations. (Philippians 1:20, ESV)
-
- Refocus your expectations on eagerly pleasing the Lord. Many times, our expectations are selfish, even though we don’t realize it. If we change our expectations to pleasing God, even when they are not met, we would then respond differently. Be a reflection of Jesus. (Galatians 5:22-23, NKJV; James 4:11-12; Matthew 7:1-5, NIV; 2 Peter 3:9; Acts 34:35)
