Rest and Renewal | Sabbath
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27-28)
Jesus taught the difference between the legalistic interpretation of the Sabbath law and grace, mercy, and compassion. Jesus taught that rest and renewal should not be legalistic, but relational. Legalism is burdensome while relational is freedom. Legalism is built on rules and strict regulations, relationship are built on love, trust, respect, connection, and commitment.
Why is the Sabbath for man?
Sabbath is a gift from God intended for our benefit. God knew we would need a time of rest and renewal. The only true way to get rest and renewal is through the one who is Lord of the Sabbath. (Isaiah 40:30-31)
When we have renewed strength, big problems look smaller, but when we don’t have renewed strength small problems look bigger. (Matthew 11:28-30) Relief is one of God’s gifts to us and it comes as we learn to enjoy the Sabbath as a gift from God. The Sabbath is a gift to be enjoyed, not a burden to be obeyed. (1 John 5:3)
What Day is the Sabbath?
It’s when and how you rest, recharge, and renew. It’s more about the Person than the day. Without the day set aside, we miss the Person, which is Jesus Christ.
Ways to enjoy the Sabbath:
Remember why God gave us the Sabbath, which is to rest, recharge and renew. Practice daily and weekly Sabbath.
Daily and weekly questions you must ask yourself:

-
- When was the last time you paused to put your entire focus on Jesus?
- How are you really doing with your walk with Jesus? (Colossians 2:6, NKJV)
