Find Satisfaction and Sanctification in the Sabbath
I. Review:
The Sabbath is a gift from God intended for our benefit. (Mark 2:27-28) God knew we would need a time of rest and renewal. The only way to get rest and renewal is through the One who is Lord of the Sabbath. (Isaiah 40:30-31)
When we have renewed our strength, big problems look smaller but we when we don’t rest and renew, small problems look bigger. This is a time to focus on God’s power and promises, not problems. This is a day to live in the midst of God’s promises, not focusing on your problems. (Matthew 11:28-30)
II. The Sabbath is a day to satisfy and sanctify. (Genesis 2:1-3, KJV)
God rested; He celebrated all that He had created. God sanctified it or set the Sabbath day apart to be a blessing. Part of this celebration should include something to do with His creation.
Most of the time, our perception and understanding are shaped by the lens through which we view things, rather than the facts of what we see and hear. The Sabbath is a day in which you choose to spend time with God. (Genesis 2:19, NKJV; Genesis 2:20-23, NKJV)
III. Adam’s awesome day with God.
God wants us to have an awesome day with Him. (Genesis 2:19, NKJV) The Lord created the animals, and Adam got to name them. When we spend our day with God, all our needs will be met. (Genesis 2:20-23, NKJV)
God created a woman and allowed Adam to name her. God can create something out of nothing to meet all our needs. (Romans 4:17, NCV; Romans 4:17b, MSG; ESV; Psalm 139:14, KJV, CEV, NCV)
