The Good Samaritan
Overview
Goodness is the 6th fruit of the spirit & available to all believers who obey Christ.
Only true goodness can be obtained by having Christ in our hearts.
Having Christ & the fruit of goodness in our hearts means God can count on us to be honest and turn away from evil.
We should always try and be sure we don’t just say good things, but that our actions are good so others can see this fruit of thee spirit in us.
A man traveling was robbed and beaten and left on the side of the road. A priest passed by and chose to go down a different road and not help, a teacher of the temple passed by and looked the other way ignoring the man & did not help, the next man to come by was from Samaria (no one liked people from here), but this man stopped and bandaged the mans wounds and put him on his donkey and took him to the nearest hotel. He not only helped get him there, but he stayed the night and cared for him.
God tells us this is what being good & being a good neighbor means and says it is what He calls all his followers to do, no matter if it seems inconvenient.
Get the Kids Involved
Talk about how it can sometimes be hard to choose to be good, because of peer pressure; a lot of the time other people want you to make bad choices to fit in, but remember just like we talked about last week, if we choose to stay true to God He will be sure we are successful and “popular” in the right way with the right people.
Talk about why you think the first two men passed the hurt man up and if they were being good?
Talk about situations you’ve been in where you had to make a choice to be good or bad and if you made the right choice or not and how of you didn’t you felt bad about it, this is Gods warning that we should do what’s right and ask for forgiveness when we don’t.
