The King They Didn’t Expect: Crowd Faith vs Committed Faith

Sermon Series:

The King They Didn’t Expect: Crowd Faith vs Committed Faith

On Palm Sunday, the crowds shouted “Hosanna! Save us now!” as Jesus rode into Jerusalem. They celebrated Him like a king—but only days later many of those same voices cried, “Crucify Him.”

Why? Because Jesus wasn’t the king they expected.

In this message, we discover the difference between the Savior people want and the Savior God sent. The crowds wanted a political king who would fix their circumstances and overthrow their enemies. Instead, Jesus came as a humble king riding on a donkey—offering something greater: a changed heart.

This sermon challenges us with a powerful question: Are we simply part of the crowd that praises Jesus when it feels good, or are we truly committed to following Him as King?

Real faith goes beyond Sunday excitement. It shows up in obedience, humility, forgiveness, and surrender. Jesus didn’t come to simply improve our lives—He came to rule our hearts.

And the decision is personal. Each of us must choose whether we will admire Jesus from a distance or surrender to Him as our King.

Key Takeaways

  • The crowd wanted a political king, but Jesus came as a spiritual Savior.
  • God’s power is often revealed through humility.
  • Pride blocks the work of Christ in our lives.
  • Jesus came to change hearts, not just circumstances.
  • Excitement in worship means little without commitment in obedience.
  • Many admire Jesus, but true faith surrenders to His leadership.
  • The real question is whether we will follow the crowd or follow the King.
