Nov 10, 2017

  • Jesus Commands us to Step Up                                                                          (Matthew 18:11-13, NKJV; Matthew 28:18-20, NKJV; Acts 1:8-9, NKJV)
    • Our vision is “Bring those far from God close to God”.
    • Two groups that are far from God: Lost and don’t know Jesus; and Lost because they have gone astray.
  • To Step Up We Have to Learn to Move From the Familiar and Make Friends With the Unfamiliar.  (Genesis 12:1-3, NKJV)
    • We have to learn to embrace the unfamiliar—It’s called Unfamiliar Faith.
    • We will learn to embrace Unfamiliar Faith or it will result in Unfamiliar Fear!
    • Familiar vs. Unfamiliar:
      • Pineville is our familiar—Alexandria is the unfamiliar.
      • Become comfortable where we are is familiar—Having a campaign is unfamiliar—being challenged to give and grow is unfamiliar.
    • God moved Abraham from the familiar to the unfamiliar for a reason –to bless him like he had never been blessed before. (Genesis 13:1-2, NKJV)
    • Many times, the blessing turns into a curse if not handled right. (Genesis 13:7-11, NKJV)
      • Lot is a picture of going from the familiar to the unfamiliar in the wrong way.
      • Lot choose what he thought was going to bring him happiness and wealth, but it brought sorrow and destruction.
    • Abraham is a picture or type of God and Lot is a picture or type of those who choose to separate themselves from God and go their own way.
    • What gets our attention will determine our direction. (Genesis 14:11-13, NKJV)

Abraham like Jesus went after the one who had gone astray. (Genesis 14:14-18, NKJV)

    • Abraham came up with a God given plan – attacked and brought back Lot and his goods
    • That’s what we are going to do—we are not going to stay in the familiar—we are going to move into the unfamiliar and attack the enemy.  (1 John 4:4, NKJV; Luke 10:1-2, NKJV)
