Wisdom in Trials, Tests, and Temptations | James 1:1-4
Asking for Wisdom in the midst of challenges.
- For trials: Learn to grow through correction, embracing humility.
- For tests: Stand firm in obedience and trust in God’s refining work.
- For temptations: Resist and rely on God’s Word and power to overcome.
- Questions to ask:
- Which am I going through?
- What is God trying to teach me or what can I learn?
Discerning the Difference.
Trials (for correction) are to refine and redirect us toward God. Tests (for maturity) are to strengthen faith and prepare us for greater blessings or responsibilities. Temptations (for destruction) are to lure us into sin and separation from God; We are to resist through Scripture, prayer, and reliance on the Holy Spirit.
The Faith Factor. (James 1:6-8, NIV)
- Faith over doubt:
- Faith anchors us in God’s promises.
- Faith positions us in God’s promises.
Faith grows through God’s promises. (Numbers 23:19, NIV)
Doubt leads to instability and hinders us from receiving wisdom. God’s presence with us eliminates fear, He provides strength and support in every situation. (Philippians 4:13, NIV; 2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV; Psalm 145:13, NIV; Psalm 118:6, NIV; Isaiah 41:10, NIV)
Divided loyalty between God and the world causes spiritual instability. Wisdom is gained when we fully surrender to God’s will.
