Bringing Honor Back Part 1

What is Honor?

  • To value, respect, or highly esteem; to treat as precious, weighty or valuable.
  • Honor builds up, believes the best, or values.
  • Dishonor- without honor; to treat as common or ordinary.
  • Dishonor tears down, believes the worst or devalues.

Honor is about what you decide—not what they deserve.

  • The true test of honor is honoring someone when they are not living an honorable life.
  • When we learn to honor those who don’t deserve honor God honors us.
  • The Godly died for the ungodly—the honorable for the dishonorable. Romans 5:8, NKJV
  • Honor works three ways: Honor those over us, under us, and next to us.

Religious Leaders Limited Jesus’ Power and Miracle because they did not Honor Him. Mark 6:1-6, NKJV

  • They believed Jesus could do it, but were not going to honor Him where He could do it—they treated Him plain, ordinary, and common.
  • Insight: About Family
    • One of the greatest dangers is dishonor in the home.
    • When we no longer show honor in the home, we no longer receive honor—Without realizing it we self sabotage our own marriage or family.
    • Men beware the one thing we want most is Respect—If we want honor we must to give honor. (Ephesians 5:33, NKJV; Ephesians 5:22, NKJV; Ephesians 6:1-2, NKJV)
  • Insight: About Jesus
    • Jesus was able and still able to bring honor and do great things in His home and your home—God is able to do whatever He promises in His Word. Romans 4:21, NLT
    • We limit what God is able to do in our homes, lives, and families by the way we honor God and others. Mark 6:1-6, NKJV
    • We dishonor God when we believe, treat, and act like Jesus is plain, ordinary or common.
    • Because of the way Mary honored God and His Word, God honored her by allowing her to be the mother of Jesus Christ! Luke 1:35, NKJV; Luke 1: 26-38, NLT
    • When we get saved—we are favored by God and the Lord is with us—but, unless we honor Him, He will not honor us.

How Mary Honored God—How we can Honor God. Luke: 26-38, NLT

  • Mary did not use her circumstances as an excuse for not honoring God and being used by God.
    • What excuses are we using for not honoring God with our time, talent, and tithe?
    • Those very excuses dishonor God—which means you are offended by God instead of being obsessed, overwhelmed, and overshadowed by Him.
  • Mary did not let her fear cause her to fail.
    • We must learn we are favored by God and let our favor grow our faith where our faith will always overcome our fears. 2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV
  • We must understand when we are overshadowed by the Holy Spirit nothing is impossible. Acts 1:8, NKJV
  • We honor God by the way we respond to His Word, Call, etc.
